Morrungulo Facilities And Mozambique General Info

General Information
Reception hours – 6.30 am – 7.00 pm. dependent on season. Should you experience any problems during your stay with us – i.e. water, electrical, or other please notify reception early so that we can rectify it.
1. Please note that due to vehicle congestion and space in camp during peak periods e.g Xmas, only two vehicles will be allowed per camp site. Free parking is provided for other vehicles at specified points.
2. Check-in time 2 pm and check out time 9.30 am. on your last day of your holidays. Cleaning staff need to prepare for the next guests.
3. The camp runs off a generator which runs from 1.30pm to 9.30 p.m out of season and half an hour longer in season. Please note we do not supply double adaptors – please bring one with you. Please note only one double adaptor is allowed per plug point. Please do not use hairdryers, kettles or other heating appliances with an electrical element as this will trip the power supply.
Only SILENT private generators are permitted in our camp. It is essential that clients bring a cable 80m long in case the generator needs to be moved away from other campers. Under no circumstances do we allow guests to run noisy ones, as this disturbs others..
Personal Generators may not be run before 7 am, between 12 noon – 2.30 pm or after 9pm.
4. Servants are available at a daily rate. Please do not employ any person without first speaking to our reception. Domestics must be paid for at the office only. Do not pay them direct.
5. Do not remove coral or live shells from the reef. Also, do not purchase undersized crayfish or crayfish in berry, i.e. with eggs. Do not buy shells from vendors. Hawkers usually sell fish, fresh prawns or crayfish on the beach.
6. Driving on the beach is illegal. If found doing so you are liable to pay fines, payable to Inhambane Port Authority: 20 000 mts You may only drive on the beach to the allocated launch site, in order to launch your boat.
QUAD BIKES AND MOTOR BIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN THE CAMP. NO JET SKIS PERMITTED IN FRONT OF THE CAMP – THIS IS A SAFE BATHING AREA.
7. Please use water sparingly. Use of hosepipes for washing vehicles and boats is prohibited during peak season.
8. Freshly baked bread rolls can be purchased from the local bakery just outside the camp.
9. There is cell phone signal at our reception. There is 3G cellphone/data signal available near the restaurant/reception area. Please remember to activate your international roaming before leaving SA.
10. Carry your vehicle papers and driving licence with you at all times. If you are towing you must display a triangle on your vehicle and trailer. New road rules specify drivers must carry a reflective vest and 2 red triangles in their vehicle. Please do not drive in Mozambique at night. It is dangerous with potholes and vehicles travelling with no lights.
11. There is now a supermarket in Massinga. A general range of supplies is available such as tea, sugar, flour, spaghetti, margarine, matches, cigarettes, tinned goods, long life milk, candles etc. A limited amount of fresh fruit and vegetables is available from the market. Canned beers, cokes, locally made rum, brandy, whisky, vodka and bottled water also available. Perishables such as cheese and meat are NOT readily available, except in Maxixe, 70 kms away and can be pricey. Best to bring your meats and refridgerated goodies with you.
12. Firewood and charcoal available locally.
13. Essential items – Bring a braai clamp for your meat/wors, a torch/re-chargeable lights for after generator hours and adaptors/extension cables for appliances, lots of sunblock and some insect repellant. Fire grates available from reception for a refundable deposit.
Visas
All foreign visitors to Mozambique on vacation must have a valid passport and visa depending on the type of passport you have. A visa can be obtained at any Mozambican consulate or embassy, with cost depending on the type required and the speed at which you require it. You will need to produce your passport (and a copy of your passport if this is your first application) plus two passport size photographs.
Visas are NOT required for South African and Zimbabwean passport holders. However, they are only permitted to stay for a maximum 30 day period.
There are penalties payable for overstaying your VISA so always useful to put down the full 30 day period to cover you in cases of vehicle breakdown, illness etc.
Malaria
Is prevalent in Mozambique and it is recommended that visitors to the country take anti-malarial prophylactics. The best precaution is to avoid being bitten by using Mosquito nets and repellent spray and wearing protective clothing, especially in the evenings. Curatives are readily available from the local pharmacy.
Water
Bottled drinking water may be purchased anywhere in Maputo and the larger cities. However, the tap water at Morrungulo is supplied by our own wells and is fine to drink.
Cell Phones
There is Vodacom and McCell reception at our office. There is 3G cellphone/data signal available near the restaurant/reception area. Please remember to activate international roaming before leaving SA or purchase a Moz sim card.
Bar / Restaurant

The “Ponta Morrungulo” Restaurant/bar is now open serving lunches as well as dinners. Meals consist mostly of fresh local seafood and delicious Mozambican dishes. Meals are prepared fresh daily. Join us for a sundowner overlooking the sea with breath-taking views.
During busy times it would be advisable to book for the restaurant before 16h00. No orders after 8.30 pm.
Closed on MONDAYS during quiet season.
There is a fresh water swimming pool at the restaurant. No glasses/bottles allowed in the pool area. Children using the pool must be supervised by an adult.
Limited ice available in peak season. Take your Coleman to fill.
DSTV will be available for main sporting features.

Places To Visit
Pomene- North of Morrungulo as a day outing. 4 x 4 essential for sandy stretches. 2 hour journey one way. Massinga 20 kms away – resupply for basic items, petrol stations and ATMs. Maxixe – Standard Bank and resupply. Take a dhow from Maxixe to Inhambane. Inhambane – steeped in history. The first port to start the export of slaves. The Clock Tower is over 200 years old and overlooks the harbour. Go for lunch or visitTofo. Has an international airport.
Motorists
Always keep the following documents handy:
- Personal identification (Passport or certified copies of same)
- Driving license
- Vehicle registration papers
- Third party insurance certificate (obtainable at the border)
- Temporary import permit (obtainable at the border and obligatory for trailers, boats and caravans)
The general speed limit in any town is 60kmph and outside the city, signs will notify you of the speed limit. It is illegal to drink and drive. Please do not drive in Mozambique at night. It is dangerous with potholes and vehicles travelling with no lights.
Seat belts are mandatory and you must carry two emergency triangles and reflective vest. Fuel stations are plentiful in built up areas and along the main roads, however when you travel on secondary roads, it is wise to ensure that you have sufficient fuel to reach your destination.
Fishing / Diving
Morrungulo beach and boat launch area now has the Ports and Wildlife Authority team on duty checking on the beach serving the three resorts in the area. Fishing licences and catch limits are monitored.
Our wildlife is our heritage and must be conserved. Both normal fishing and spear fishing is strictly controlled as it affects tourism. Anyone diving off their own boat must show their dive qualification certificates. Safety equipment on boats is essential.
You are required by the Inhambane Port Authority to purchase boat launching, diving and fishing permits. These are available from our reception.
Launching Fees LAUNCHING FEES available at office 1,250 mts : fibre glass boat / rubber duck / jet skis. Canoe 600 mts
Diving R250 per person for people NOT using a registered dive school. This applies to divers diving off their own boats.
Fishing licences All fishermen require a licence 420 meticias normal fishing / 525 meticais includes spear fishing. Spear fishing is illegal without a licence. Permits can purchased at reception.

Terms And Conditions
A NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF 50% of the total package price is required in order to confirm the booking. Balance payable at Morrungulo. In the event of cancellation, the full amount of money deposited is forfeited.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHEQUES AND THERE ARE NO CREDIT CARD FACILITIES AVAILABLE.
*** Best to change your Rands for Meticais at the border, as local banks in Massinga do not allow tourists to change their foreign currency cash over the counter.
